Further to the ‘Lines of Desire’ it got me thinking about way finding through major cities, and that of my own city. Taking into consideration that the majority of the USA has been planned on a ‘block’ system, this makes giving way finding instructions far easier than trying to explain a route through Sheffield, as below;
This could prove to be very confusing trying to explain this route, however this could be far simpler if we were to explain the route based on landmarks which we could ‘tick off’ as we go, such as this;
I think i need to explore the positives and negatives to both and see whether the route is easier to follow if were given key landmarks to recognise as we go.
